What do a Newcastle United fan, a certified scuba diver, a fluent Welsh speaker, an adrenaline junkie, and a former county swimmer have in common?
They’re all part of the same team – the KAEFER UK & Ireland Team working on one of the most ambitious construction projects in Europe.
Every day, these individuals bring their energy, expertise, and teamwork to a site that is shaping the UK’s energy future. And now, you can see it all in action in KAEFER UK & Ireland’s new short film “Behind the Build” that provides you a closer look at the people, the passion, and the precision that keep Hinkley Point C moving.
Powering the future – together
With more than 33,000 employees worldwide, KAEFER delivers industrial services across the globe. In the UK & Ireland, a team of over 3,500 colleagues works across offices, workshops and construction sites – including around 400 specialists based at Hinkley Point C.
Stretching along the Somerset coastline in Bridgwater, Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new nuclear power station in over 20 years. It will provide zero-carbon electricity for six million homes, playing a vital role in achieving the nation’s net-zero ambitions.
Right at the centre of this immense project is the KAEFER UK & Ireland Team. From the skilled workers on site bringing plans to life, to the planners, LEAN professionals, the People & Development team, logistics experts and warehouse teams supporting them behind the scenes, each person plays an essential part. Together, they ensure that every task is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

Faces behind the build
Before we explore the scale of the project, let’s take a moment to meet some of the people who make it all possible.
So, who are the faces behind the build?
Here are a few of our colleagues sharing their roles, passions, and fun facts.

Precision, preparation and people
A project of this magnitude demands meticulous planning and coordination. While today’s tasks are being completed on site, the next weeks and months are already being mapped out. Whether it’s ensuring safety for every team member, applying LEAN principles to drive continuous improvement, or securing materials and equipment in time – KAEFER leaves nothing to chance.
KAEFER UK & Ireland’s work at Hinkley Point C spans the entire project lifecycle – from design and fabrication through to surface protection and access solutions. Our scope of work includes:

Since 2021, our local teams have coated 89,000 square metres of concrete – using around 74,000 litres of paint. That’s roughly the size of 12 football pitches, as Newcastle supporter Mark might proudly point out!
Behind the helmets – real people, real impact
At Hinkley Point C, work never truly stops. The site runs around the clock, powered by many people and a constant rhythm of activity. For KAEFER, it’s like a finely tuned engine – every cog and gear working in harmony to keep progress moving.
The new “Behind the Build” film takes you on a journey to Hinkley Point C, offering a rare glimpse into what life on site is really like for the KAEFER UK & Ireland Team. It’s a story about people – their dedication, teamwork, and the pride they take in contributing to a project that will power millions of homes with energy.
As Paul Ferrand, KAEFER’s Site Lead at Hinkley Point C, explains:

The film shines a light on those who make it all possible – from those managing coatings and logistics to those supporting KAEFER’s ‘Grow With Us’ strategy, helping build a sustainable, skilled workforce for the UK’s nuclear sector.
