From puzzle pieces to progress: KAEFER’s commitment to science-based targets

Imagine a puzzle with thousands of pieces. Each piece is small, but together they create a picture that’s breathtaking. That’s how solving climate change feels – daunting, but achievable if everyone puts in their bit. At KAEFER, we’ve found our piece of the puzzle, and it’s now officially validated. Our science-based targets are more than just commitments; they’re a framework for real change that aligns our business with the future of our planet.

What are science-based targets?

In a puzzle as complex as climate action, every piece needs to fit perfectly – and that includes ensuring commitments are as solid as the actions behind them. This is where the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) comes in.

The Science Based Targets initiative is a global effort to help companies set measurable, science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These targets are based on climate science and are in line with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Behind the scenes

To bring our journey to life, we spoke to Erhard Dubs, KAEFER’s Head of Corporate Strategy & ESG and Julia Kasparek, Global Sustainability Manager, the two key team members behind KAEFER’s SBTi validation process. Their perspective sheds light on the hard work, challenges and insights that made this achievement possible…

How KAEFER is taking action

Achieving these targets requires a comprehensive approach. KAEFER is tackling emissions from multiple angles and is working closely with all business units to find and implement smart solutions to reduce emissions. This involves an optimised usage of energy and resources, minimising waste but also a continuous exchange with our suppliers

These efforts not only benefit the environment, but also strengthen relationships with environmentally conscious partners and customers, creating shared value.

Let’s solve the puzzle together!

When asked what she’s most proud of, Julia reflects: “It’s not just the result – it brings together so many different little projects we’ve been working on over the last few years with our internal ESG network worldwide – but more than that, it’s a collective effort and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Like solving a puzzle, building a sustainable future requires every piece to fit. At KAEFER, we’re proud to contribute to the bigger picture through our validated, science-based targets. And with people like Erhard and Julia leading the way, we’re confident we’ll continue to make meaningful progress.
